2023 RE-CONNECT X WAVE PARK IMAGO 《FRACTAL ODYSSEY》FUSION PERFORMANCE

Introduction

IMAGO offers a two-part, immersive, multisensory journey that delves into the complexities of fractal identities and transcendent experiences. This groundbreaking performance combines elements of visual art, choreography, scenography, and soundscapes to present a transformative narrative. Unfolding in two distinct but interconnected episodes—IMAGO-Corps Fractal: PART I and IMAGO – Odyssey: PART II—the performance unfolds across two unique venues, each contributing to the overarching narrative.

    Gabriel Moraes Aquino

    Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1994, Gabriel Moraes Aquino has been living and working in France since 2017. He graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris and has been in residence at the Cité des Arts, Fondation Fiminco, Artagon Pantin, Niki Residency and currently at the A4 Residency Art Center. Gabriel has shown his work in the Cité des Arts, Fondation Fiminco, Artagon Pantin, Niki Residency and the current residency program at A4 Residency Art Center.
    With a particular commitment to the plasticity of photography, Gabriel’s artistic practice explores the complex interplay between tropicalism, mobility, and cultural displacement. Through a variety of mediums such as photography, video and performance art, he creates intimate spaces that question geographical and cultural distance. Works such as “Parada crua” and “Negative Palms” exemplify his nuanced understanding of these themes, and Gabriel’s passion for collaboration has led him to initiate projects that promote cultural liberation and commonality through his NGO, often utilizing the universal language of movement. His work has been showcased globally, from the Sogetsu Plaza in Japan to the Bourse de Commerce – Collection Pinault in France, and in 2024, Gabriel will be leading a collaboration with Nicolas Faubert with the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis.     Nicolas Faubert

    Visual artist and performer. born in 1991 in Libreville, Gabon, with a visual disability of more than 80%. Works and lives in Paris. At a very young age, he started studying pop music and later on Hip-pop, House and Locking dance styles. In the lounge, he became famous by dancing standing up, as his eyes were still too weak to hold his position on the floor. At the same time, Nicolas trained as an event organizer and cultural mediator and worked with a range of associations and institutions. His goal is to transmit values beyond the self through his own experience, with a unique pedagogical approach, and his disability has allowed him to develop alternative ways of perceiving movement and space.In 2018, he was selected by visual artist and video producer Laure Prouvost for his project at the French Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale. After starring in the short film Vois ce bleu profondte fondre (Deep Blue Surrounds You), he performed at the French Pavilion for the duration of the Biennale (7 months.)     Richard Sears

    Richard Sears is an American pianist and composer based in Paris, who has collaborated with renowned jazz artists such as the Billy Hart Quartet, the Muhal Richard Abrams Orchestra, Joshua Redman, etc. In 2018, he was commissioned by The Shed in New York City to write Should I Lose You, a piece that combines improvisational piano and electronic music. a concerto that blends improvised piano with an electronic score. in 2016, he released Altadena with drummer Albert “Tootie” Heath, which won critical acclaim, and was commissioned by the Los Angeles Jazz Society. in 2020, he released an album for Una Corda released a unique album, Unsettled. A current patron of the American Composers Forum and artist-in-residence at the POUSH Art Center in Paris, Sears continues to innovate. His upcoming album, Appear to Fade, includes solo piano pieces and improvisations using tape loop technology, and will be released in September 2023, produced by him in collaboration with Ari Chersky for Figureight Records.

    Song Yulong

    Born in Benxi, Liaoning province, Song Yulong has been working in Paris and Chengdu in the form of painting, sculpture, costume installation and performance. He often displays his creations in the form of multi-material composites, using wearable composite sculptures as clothing accessories, combining them with the body as an extension and motivation of his behavior, and combining them with stage set visualization to tell a story.

    Mona Young-eun Kim & Robert Hulland
    Mona Young-eun Kim from Korea and Robert Hulland from the UK are artists and professors at Esad de Reims. They use body movements as a means to translate into the digital realm through scanning and 3D modeling.

    Jingwen Wu

    Born in Ya’an, Sichuan Province in 1996, she moved to Los Angeles, California at the age of 11 with her father. She graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York with a degree in Photography and currently lives and works in Chengdu, Sichuan. Born in China and raised in the U.S., she tries to merge Eastern emotional patterns with Western contexts, and her work often shows a huge geographic span and an intersection of real and virtual worlds. Jingwen Wu’s work revolves around self-exploration as a starting point for discussions about identity, intimacy, the internet and contemporary life, and investigates the connection between memory trauma and imagery through different media.

    Jacob Eisenmann

    Artist, writer, filmmaker and translator. He is currently attending the City University of New York School of Law, where he is studying public interest law. from 2017-2020, he is the principal of Reena Spaulings / House of Gaga in Los Angeles. in 2017, he published a poetry collection, P. Mil. in collaboration with Anglo-Egyptian Bookshop in Cairo, and in 2020 he published a poetry collection, P. Mil. in collaboration with Apogee Graphics published Haggadah. As an artist, his work has been shown at Bad Reputation, in lieu, 7 rue Ricaut and most recently at Balice Hertling in Paris. His television series Costards premiered at the International Center for Contemporary Art in London in 2020.

    Joyce Mendy (Sakeul)

    Pseudonym Sakeul, is a rising star in the French art scene. He combines the roles of dancer, DJ, beatmaker and producer in a wide range of musical styles covering genres such as Breakbeat house, UK garage, Drum ‘N’ Bass and Afrobeat. His musical journey began at the age of 12 when the PlayStation and MTV Music Generator became his initial creative tools. Later, with the help of computers, he released his first composition under the name “100 Skrupull”. However, music is only one aspect of his passion. For Sakeul, dance is a natural extension of his creativity, a way to translate emotions into movement. His dedication is not limited to the arts: as an active member of the NGO HeartStreet, he participates in intercultural projects, advocating for urban and contemporary culture, friendship and diversity in France and internationally.Sakeul’s passion and dedication to the arts exemplify the vibrancy of today’s culture.
