RE-CREATE

Memory Crease Paper Art Workshop

Introduction

Using origami to create a sustainable and knowledgeable back-and-forth – Icelandic artist Saga led partners from Fuhu’s “Red Man Program” to create China’s North, South East, West and North East, or Iceland’s “beak”. At the warm and inviting Cafe de Coucou, Saga and his friends from the Luhu community got to work creating the North, South East, West and East China in conversation!

Some friends used recycled Xinhua dictionaries to fold paper cranes; children created pants and holes in the wall out of old paper. …… Through each of the North-South-East-West-North projects, Saga felt the charm of re-creation, experienced the birth of sustainability in their hands, and enjoyed the slow life of escaping from the Internet for a moment, as the North-South-East-West-North projects were transformed into daily contemplation and upliftment.

  • Artist

    Saga Unn

Born in 1992, Saga Unn is an Icelandic artist who works primarily with installation. Saga graduated with a BfA in Fine art from Lasalle College of the Art in 2016 before going on to complete another BA in Japanese Studies at the University of Iceland in 2021 (including a year of Chinese language courses), after becoming more and more interested in language, translation and the written word’s relationship with art. For Saga the creative process is a natural – even animal – compulsion, and much of the artists output are meditations on the relationship between nature and the human world and concepts. The mysteries and contradiction that appear and persists between these spheres.
